I did a review for the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain a long time ago, and this is a much belated post for the other shades (6 Camel Croisiere and 7 Corail Aquatique) that I said I would review. Out of the entire range, I think these are the easiest and most wearable shades to pull off for most complexions. Long time readers would know that I am all about “your-lips-but-better”!
My thoughts for YSL Glossy Stain still stand, so please check out this post for a detailed review. Camel Croisiere (6) and Corail Aquatique (7) are very similar, and I could have only purchased one, but two is always better than one 😛
6 Camel Croisiere applies as a burnt orange color. My first thought was that it’s a very chic summery shade and would look very pretty with a bronzy makeup. Unfortunately it is freezing cold in Australia and I am at my palest, so I feel this color is a little too warm for my liking at the moment. I don’t feel I will get much use out of it until I start to get more tanned.
Compared to Camel Croisiere, 7 Corail Aquatique is a coral shade but with a stronger pink undertone. With one coat as a lip stain, it applies sheer and has just the right amount of color to enhance the natural color of my lips and leaving them look moist and glossy. In my swatch picture below I applied two coats for more coverage, and it shows up as true pink coral that still looks natural and manages to brighten up my complexion.
Comparison
YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain are available here or here in the US. It retails for AUD$50 each in Australia.
Bottom Line: Love Corail Aquatique! Camel Croisiere is a seasonal color to me, and can be a little tricky to pull off depending on the skin tone.

I love orangey corals like these but they look terrible on me…I’m so jealous that you can pull them off so well!
Reika, you are beautiful! I am going to the store to try on the Glossy Stain.
I love your eye makeup as well. Which eye shadow did you use?
aww..thank you Sandy! You are too kind!
I am using an eyeshadow palette by a Japanese brand called by Beaute de Kose. Not sure if you have heard of it…their e/s texture feels like marshmallow 🙂
Marshmallow?! That sounds so interesting. I heard Kose have good skin product lines. Will need to try their eyeshadow next time I go to Asia. Thanks a lot.
I can’t believe how pretty those colours look on you. Every orange from YSL (stain) looks really odd and off on me. The only oranges (liquid) that I can wear are Ellis Faas ones. I especially love your FOTDs so much, always nice to look at and your hair looks so smooth here <3
Thanks Claire! I agree with you, orange is a tricky color to pull off. I really need to check out Ellis Fass soon, they make fabulous lip shades from what I have seen so far!
That’s absolutely true, I have some orange based Ellis Faas lipsticks and can pull them off way better. Also loving the reds <3
I simply love your face makeup. So flawless & effortless.
Thank you so much Renne! You are incredibly kind 🙂
I like the coral one on you! It’s really tricky but you combined so well with the eyeshadows! Love it!
I loveeeee No:6 so much that I rushed to Singapore Airport DFS once I touched down from Sydney yesterday… both colours look so lovely on you though Sydney David Jones price at AUD50 is way too steep than DFS Singapore which sells at SGD38.
They are v addictive, aren’t they 🙂
Btw what brand of contact lens are you using, the colours are awesome :))
These look incredible!! The colours are so gorgeous. Too bad about the price 🙁
They both look amazing on you. I’m getting the YSL glossy stain in number 9, but now I want these too.
