Finally here is a review of my current beloved base product – the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Gel Foundation SPF25 PA+++. There was a lot of anticipation for the first cushion foundation ever released by Chanel last year, and it has been my most used base product ever since. Apparently, it is extremely popular in Asia with 1 sold every 2 seconds. The light shades are sold out at many department stores in Australia as well.

The packaging of Chanel makeup is always beyond gorgeous – the square case makes the cushion foundation more unique looking and classic. It has a refreshing aqua-gel formula packed with hyaluronic acid that feels ultra hydrating and lightweight on the skin. The consistency is quite wet and watery, so it applies very dewy and cooling (feels like a mist), and it instantly makes the complexion look more fresh, youthful and plump with a dewy glow. It is perfect for the midday touch up to erase any signs of fatigue, as this foundation gives an instant boost of hydration and will make your makeup look fresh again. The other bonus is the sun protection of spf25 and PA+++ that you can apply anytime and anywhere.

Coverage:

The coverage is sheer which is what the product is designed for. Here is a before and after shot with one coat of the foundation. As you can see, it instantly brightens and makes the skin appear more even-toned and luminous. The skin still appears translucent, natural and poreless. Both pictures were taken at the same angle and lighting with no editing nor filter applied.

Color / Lasting Power:

My shade is N20. This foundation runs lighter than usual – if you are a N20 with other Chanel liquid foundation, you might need to go N30 (a shade darker) with this cushion. Lasting power is about 5-6 hours, and if you set it with loose powder it extends the wear time up to 7-8 hours with indoor conditions.

Application:

As I normally go for sheer to medium build coverage, I like to apply a layer of tinted base underneath such as my fav Shu Uemura CC UV base mousse, and the Chanel Concealer under the eyes, then pat the Chanel cushion all over my face as a “top coat” in the morning with Chanel retractable foundation brush, and it gives the most perfect natural-looking creamy and radiant complexion. Finishing with a sheer dust of Givenchy Prisme Libre Powder over the t-zone.

Bottomline: Overall, this is a perfect complexion enhancer that adds a sheer coverage, radiant glow, and makes the complexion looking absolutely poreless and fresh.

Today’s lipstick swatching is for the gorgeous Givenchy Le Rouge Sculpt Two-Tone Lipstick in 04 Corail (also available at Sephora). I am obsessed with any lip color in the tone of brick reddish brown – it’s a very autumn color that reminds me of maple leaves. It seems the whole world is obsessed with the shade currently, so it is getting harder and harder to get hold of them from the popular brands in Australia. I accidentally came across this lipstick at Sephora and it was love at first sight with this color.

givenchy-le-rouge-sculpt-two-tone-lipstick-04-corail-review-swatch-1

The two-tone concept is interesting, but I find it very hard to achieve an even two-tone look on my lips without spending a minimum of 10 minutes which nobody would. So in the swatch, I have mixed the two colors together. 04 Corail is in half true bright coral and half brick red. The beauty of a two-tone lipstick is that you can adjust the brightness and color by applying it with a lip brush. In my swatch, I have applied with 50% brick red, and 50% coral. The texture is silky smooth and feels very lightweight on the lips with a 4 to 5 hours staying power (without drinking/eating) in a satin finish.

Current Favorite Makeup

December 19, 2017

Rounding up some of my favorite makeups this month! A lot of the items in this post are not easy to get due to their popularity and they are often sold-out worldwide, and the thrill of being able to get hold of them is just surreal. I always tell my friends that buying beautiful luxury makeup is the entry point of indulging in retail therapy. They are relatively much cheaper than any luxury fashion goods, but the thrill and happiness are no less.

Clockwise:

Tom Ford Soleil Eye and Cheek Palette Violet Argent (available here in Australia) – To me, the Tom Ford Soleil is the most beautiful collection he releases every year. Every piece is exquisite and is like a collectible-item. The Violet Argent has all the wearable shades in the most stunning packaging. I bought mine here with worldwide shipping. As I have mentioned in a previous post, I am shifting my shopping sites to mainly UK-based, as I find the currency exchange rate is much more favorable than the US sites, and Selfridges is my top favorite site for all the best beauty products. I have also subscribed to their annual $65 unlimited international shipping!

Pat McGrath MatteTrance OMI Lipstick – Must must-have lippie of the year! (swatched here)

Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High-Intensity Lipstick (refillable)- The newest lip color range from Hourglass. If you could get your hands on the shades I Can’t Live Without, or At Night, you should snatch one straight away because they are both stunning and extremely hard to get. Review to come soon. I bought mine here.

Chanel Longwear Color Corrector/Concealer– Chanel has recently reformulated their concealer. It now comes in two color ranges – color correcting and concealers. I love the lightweight, super hydrating creamy gel consistency that melds into the delicate skin around the eyes, and it covers my mild dark circles perfectly without creasing over time, nor enhancing any dry lines. I bought mine here in Australia.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Gel Foundation – This is the first cushion-like foundation from Chanel! Apparently, one is sold every 2 seconds, and the lighter shades are out-of-stock at most department stores in Australia. It is also called the Jelly Cushion foundation because it is slightly different to the conventional cushion foundation. The consistency is very watery and it gives an instant cooling sensation when applied. It feels so fresh on the skin and perfect for the summer and gives a satiny dewy finish with a sheer coverage. The color is about 1 shade lighter than usual. Will give a detailed review soon. Available on Chanel.com in the US, Selfridges, Cosme-de, and David Jones in Australia.

The Pat McGrath LUXE Lipstick was crowned “The World’s Best Lipstick” as soon as they were launched, and they sell out in a blink of an eye. I couldn’t resist and ordered some of her popular shades on her website, and OMG they are totally lives up to its title and are simply irresistible. The pigmentation and the formulation are flawless that have totally set a new standard for me! The lipsticks have recently been restocked, and her entire line is currently 15% off on any order with code LABLOVE15 for a limited time. I thought I’d quickly share a swatch of one of her most sought-after shades – LUXE MatteTrance OMI. It is my new HG lip color now, and I will be getting many backups of it because it is too beautiful!

pat-mcgrath-mattetrance-lipstick-omi--review-swatch-1 OMI is an opaque mid-tone terracotta rose color in full matte finish. Swatch is done with 1 swipe only. The color is the most flattering brown rose I have ever used – it doesn’t look too dark nor too beige, and would be suitable for most complexions.

I’ve been raving about the Lancome Matte Shaker on my Instagram a lot, so it’s time for a proper review (bought mine here in Australia). The most popular shade is the Beige Vintage which is often sold-out worldwide, and it has earned many raves amongst all the beauty enthusiasts. It was out of stock in Australia for a long time until it was re-stocked recently. Along with the beige vintage, I’ve also picked up the shade Magic Orange which I am also really loving.

lancome-matte-shaker-beige-vintage-magic-orange-review-swatch

The Matte Shaker is similar to a liquid lipstick – in a lightweight, watery and highly pigmented formula (aka lip cushion) that is done in the same fashion as a cushion foundation versus the traditional liquid formula. It glides on weightless and feels very hydrating to the lips even for a matte formula. The special sponge applicator gives a stamped-in affect, and the color is completely blended in with the lips, that gives a stain-like finish that looks very natural – there is no cakey, dry and chalky feeling on the lips. It takes about 1-2 minutes to dry down to a full-matte finish and stays put for at least 5-6 hours. The best way to apply the product is to use the fingers to pat it in for an ombre look, and it is important to shake the bottle before use.

I have to apologize for the swatching in this post. I did take some high res pictures but I did not like the lighting, so I did it again with my phone and once you cropped the pictures the res quality is very low!

Beige Vintage – as the name suggests it is a universally flattered muted beige rose shade that would suit everyone.

Magic Orange – is a super pretty bright coral orange with a hint of baby pink.

Just a quick review sharing the highly raved Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette in Ablaze which I have been loving lately. I am obsessed with warm neutral colors with a twist at the moment – anything in the color palette of autumn shades such as terracotta, red brick brown and rosy brown just instantly grabs my attention. It seems everybody is raving about this palette, and all the colors are right up my alley so I had to have it!

smashbox-cover-shot-eye-palette-ablaze-review-swatch-1

The size of the palette is quite small compared to the other regular sized palettes – it’s a portable purse size that you can easily fit in your makeup bag. My favorite part of the design has to be the two bigger size of eye shadows in the colors of ivory beige, and peachy gold as they will always be the most used base colors. The texture of all eyeshadows is silky smooth and easy to apply and blend. The matte shades are velvety, and shimmer shades are finely milled so they don’t feel gritty and there is no fall out when applying.  All shades are intensely pigmented so a little goes a long way, and using a soft fluffy brush for the application is recommended.

Top Row (left to right)

Relaxed: Matte Ivory Beige

Moccasin: Shimmer Peachy Gold

Bottom Row (left to right)

Siesta: Pink Rose Bronze Shimmer

Nirvana: Berry Pink

Delirious: Medium Bronze Shimmer

Torch: Golden Pumpkin Shimmer

Throwback: Matte Terracotta- my favorite shade of the palette!

Dark Horse: Matte Cool Brown

Current Wishlist

November 7, 2017

My makeup shopping mojo is back in full swing so I’ve been shopping a lot, as well as adding a lot of things to my never-ending wishlist. I thought I’d share what I have bought lately, and what is on my mind! Clearly, I am going through a warm brown eye shadow phase – as you can see in my wishlist. Taupe is so last year so I have put all my cool taupe palettes aside, and I am now on a mission to collect every variation of warm brown color, particularly in the color families of terracotta, reddish clay and burnt rusty brown.

frontrowbeauty-beauty-wishlist

1.   Huda Obsession Palettes – Huda just released a set of new eyeshadow palettes in smaller packages. I ordered the warm brown palette here as soon as they became available as I know they will sell out soon. Currently, CultBeauty is offering free international shipping for Huda Beauty (no minimum order value).

2.   Anastasia Beverly Hills Prism Eye Shadow Palette – Another beautiful highly sought-after eyeshadow palette that I just bought! I love the Modern Renaissance so much (reviewed here), so it’s a no-brainer for me to pick up her newest release, and the colors are right on point.

3.   Fenty Beauty Match Stix – Totally worth the hype and I am really impressed with the quality of Rihanna’s beauty line, and my favorite product of her line is the Match Stix. This MatchStix Trio Set in light is possibly the best contour and highlight set I have ever used! Review to come soon.

4.   Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette – Just can’t resist the reddish terracotta shades, so I had to have the highly raved palette in the color Ablaze.

5.   Giorgio Armani Cushion Foundation – Absolutely amazing formula. It’s definitely a must-have if you like cushion foundations.

6.   Natasha Denona Sunset Palette – I heard so many good reviews about her eyeshadow palettes and her best seller is finally back in stock!

7.   La Mer The Sheer Pressed Powder – La Mer offers a lot more than their legendary cream. I am a big fan of their powder as they make the finest airy powder so I can’t wait to get my hands on their newest release.

8.   Suqqu 2017 Japan Christmas Collection – Trying to get hold of Suqqu is exhausting. I just received my Suqqu palettes from the UK 2017 Christmas Collection, and now I have my eyes set on the Japan Christmas Collection! If you know where to get them without the exorbitant additional margin, please let me know!
