Hi everyone, I am thrilled to be featured on the Feather Factor’s interview series this week! She is one of my all time favorite fashion and lifestyle bloggers for everything high fashion. Her blog (Feather Factor) is an encyclopedia for Hermes, Chanel and many other brands that every girl dreams of with great styling tips! The weekly interview series is my must-read every week – bringing you into the world of fashion and beauty from some really interesting people that you may or may not know! I am very honored to be part of it.
I have been having ombré hair for the past two years, and I’m still loving it which is quite rare as I normally get bored of the same thing very quickly. So I’d like to share my experience and a few tips with you as requested by my readers:
Why should you have it:
– If you want to change your hair color but do not want a drastic change, ombré hair can be a good compromise compared to full head color.
– Believe it or not – it’s low maintenance as I don’t need to visit my hairdresser every few months for a touch-up.
– Lastly it’s still very much on-trend (if that matters to you)!
Some Tips:
– I find that there is a fine line between ombré hair and grown-out hair! Make sure your hairdresser is very experienced in the balayage/ombré hair field, and has the skill to deliver a natural gradation from one color to another.
– Bring in lots of pictures to show your HDs, particularly the models/celebrities with ombré hair who have the same natural hair color as you. I brought in pictures of Jessica Biel, Mila Kunis and Lily Aldridge. Never tell your HD “to do whatever you want” if you already have an image in your mind!
– It can be expensive, so do get a quote from your HD before you book it in. To give you an idea, I paid about AUD$450 for a mixture of services including half-head balayage, highlights at the crown area and finish with a toner, and it was a 4 hour long process.
– Once you get the ombré effect , it is very easy to maintain the color as the regrowth tends to blend in easily. If you ask for blond or ashy highlights, make sure you wash the hair with a purple/silver shampoo at least once a week to prevent the hair from going brassy (I’m using the Matrix So-Silver Shampoo reviewed here). Ideally professional toner service is preferred every 3 months. I am due for one very soon as I noticed my hair is getting more yellow.

Hi everyone, I am back, with two big luggages full of goodies. I am still jet lagging so this is going to be a quick post. First of all I wanted to thank my dear readers who gave me suggestions as to what to do/eat/shop in USA. Thank you so much, I didn’t get a chance to reply so I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your lovely ideas. I had very limited internet access so there are still a lot of pending comments and emails that I haven’t replied. Please excuse for the delay and I will try to get back to you asap!
As usual I shopped more than what I had planned for…when you are on a shopping trip with your two best friends Amex and Visa, it guarantees a shocking bill at the end of the trip! And here they are..my beauty haul.

I have learnt this little trick from an Asian Beauty TV show and I was absolutely astounded so I would like to share it with you all. It’s a really simple and fun test to find out how much acetone your nail polishes contain! We all know too much acetone will make your nails thinner, weaker and more yellow right?!
All you need is a piece of polystyrene foam (also known as packaging foam), get your nail polishes in different brands ready, then place one drop of each on the polystyrene foam… Don’t sneeze, don’t blink your eyes..because you don’t want to miss out what is going to happen. The foam will start to dissolve – the depth of the hole will be a good indication of the level of acetone the polish contains.
So here is my little test, I tested it out with a mix of high-end and drugstore brands, as well as the nail polishes that are formulated with 3 FREE (Formaldehyde, Toluene, Parabens free)that are non toxic. The results are..*drum rolls*….haha I don’t want to say in case the cosmetic companies come and shoot me. I’ll leave it to your girls to test it out! However I do want to mention that my favorite brand Chanel didn’t fail on me, it has the shallowest hole!
So will I stop using nail polishes? Probably not because I love them too much, but I certainly know which brands I will be buying more 🙂
