A girl can never have too many lipsticks right? (as well as shoes, bags, etc..). Obviously, I love buying lipsticks. Unlike the past where I tend of buy all different colors from the same range, now I am only obsessed with a few certain shades, and I buy all the variations of them across all the brands.
Today I am sharing some swatches of my favorites shades from the Nars Velvet Matte and Satin Lip Pencils – they are not new but I have recently bought my second Walkyrie and Dolce Vita, so I thought I’d take some pictures of them before I break into them. Both colors are the cult classic from Nars and they have been my long favorites. I also added the Satin Lip color in Golshan because it is also a similar shade!
The lip pencil style lipstick is a brilliant idea as it is very easy to apply as well as for defining the lips – especially if you are on the go. The Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil applies silky smooth and creamy with a slight slip, and dries down to a matte finish without drying the lips. Lasting power is also better than an ordinary lipstick – about 4-5 hours on me.
Nars Dolce Vita is a beautiful muted MLBB shade – it’s a soft neutral rosy pink. One of those colors that you will get hooked on forever. It is fool-proof and goes well with all complexions.
Nars Walkyrie is my all-time top favorite because it is the perfect burnt terracotta red with a brown undertone. It’s slightly darker and warmer than Dolce Vita, which also helps to brighten up the complexion.
The Nars Satin Lip Pencil Golshan is a reddish black cherry color. It has a satin finish when just applied and dries down to a semi-matte finish over time. I personally like to apply the color sheer and blot the sheen off to achieve a stain-like finish as in the FOTD below.

You can find the Nars lip line in Nordstrom (they are currently doing a gift with purchase for Nars) and they ship to Australia! I also just found out that Nordstrom is doing price match for the Australian customers. They are also available in Neiman Marcus and they are also running some great deals at the moment including a free sample tote and complimentary gift cards.

My affection with lip pencils continues, and I am glad to say I have finally found my holy grail formula from Suqqu! Suqqu is known for superior quality, and once again their latest Lip Defining Pencil Series has blown me away. I picked up the neutral shades in Beige and Cinnamon. The silky and moisturizing texture in a matte finish is something I have never seen from other brands.
The lip pencil comes in a retractable black glossy pen that feels weighty in the hands. As usual with Suqqu, you buy the holder and the refill separately, and once the pencil is finished, you just need to buy the refill that works out to be much cheaper. The formula and consistency are unparalleled. Apparently, the new Lip Defining Lip Pencil series is developed with thoughts concerning aging around the lips. It has the most silky smooth and moisturizing texture for a long-lasting matte finish. It goes on not too hard, and not too soft and gives a perfectly smooth finish without looking harsh. It does not feel chalky, nor does it make your lips look and feel dry over time.
The lip pencil also has a fatter sharp tip which makes the application quick and easy for filling in the entire lips. The two colors I picked look stunning on their own, and they also work great pairing with most neutral lip colors. I love wearing nude lip pencil with MLBB lipstick, as they add more volume and drama to the lips with an edge. The combination makes the color super long lasting – there is hardly any color fade after having your meal!

Beige – is a true medium nude beige color with a hint of peachy pink.
Cinnamon – medium muted rosey nude color
I purchase most of my Suqqu products at Selfridges as they work out to be the best price even compared to buying them directly from Japan. I’ve recently bought their $65 for one-year unlimited international shipping which I highly recommend as there are a lot of great beauty and fashion brands that are cheaper than the US and Australia!

There are a couple of exciting launches from MAC lately that captured my heart, and one of my favorites has to be the MAC Caitlyn Jenner Collection! I picked up two beautiful lip products – the Cremesheen Lipglass in Beautifully Bare and Lip Pencil in Soar that are flattering for everyday use. It seems both her and her daughters have a talent for creating makeup colors that are right on point and you just can’t get enough of them!
The Creamsheen Lipglass comes in a special packaging with a gold cap that makes it look very expensive and glam in real life. It has a lovely non-sticky creamy smooth consistency and goes on semi-opaque in a cream finish (not shimmery and sparkly) with a glass-like shine. The color Beautifully Bare is perfection – deep toned beige color (MLBB) that is slighter darker than the natural color of my own lips. When it is worn alone, it still adds a tint of color to my lips for a pretty and soft finish. Or you can layer it over lipstick or lip liner in a similar tone to bring more color out.
The Lip Pencil Soar in is muted rosey beige color lip liner, and it goes perfectly with Beautifully Bare. I find that the MAC lip pencils from the permanent line to be quite average (much more prefer their pro-lip liners), but this limited edition color glides on much creamier and smoother, and not as chalky and drying.

I am very late to lip liners – I mean after wearing makeup for 10 years I have finally started wearing lip liners. So I was on a mission to acquire as many lip liners as I could! I looked around and unfortunately I could not find any that I liked from my usual favorite brands such as Chanel. My last resort was MAC which undeniably offered the biggest selection of colors – there were so many of them I liked but I limited myself to 3 colors for now! I picked up Rosy Rim Lip Pencil, and Good Timing and In Anticipation from the Pro Longwear Lip Pencil Range.
In terms of texture, the pro longwear lip pencils are much more superior. They feel like a gel lip pencil so they are more pigmented and glide on more fluidly. They feel silky smooth and buttery to apply, so if you have dry lips this range is definitely more suitable. The normal Lip Pencil retails slightly cheaper, and the texture leans towards more crayon-like so they are a little on the dry side. They do not apply as smooth as the pro longwear pencils. If you like to fill out your entire lips with a lip pencil, this would dry out your lips. For just lining the lips, it still does a decent job.
Good Timing is my favorite color! It is a muted cool milky rosy pink (but not lavender) that goes perfect with any cool-toned pink lip colors you have. My other favorite use is that if I want to make any warm pink lipstick color appear more cool, then I would wear Good Timing over my entire lips underneath it.
In Anticipation is another beautiful dusty rosy pink that is more warm and brighter than Good Timing. It may look quite rosy on the hand swatch, but once its applied on the lips it shows up as more nude rosy pink.
Rosy Rim is very similar to In Anticipation, but slightly peachier and lighter. Just another perfect your-lips-but-better shade that goes really well with any lipstick color in the pinks, corals and nude color ranges.

Bold lips have been my statement look over the past year – whether wearing the red lip color in a full opaque coat or as a sheer stain, I am infatuated with how much impact it adds to the overall look. Today’s review is for my 3 current favorite red lip colors – Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Red Carpet, Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer Rose Paradis 447 and Surrat Automatique Lip Crayon P.O.C. They are all of different texture and finish, so they offer different options for achieving different looks.
The Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer Rose Paradis 447 (available here in Australia) is from the Chanel Summer 2015 Collection. It is a highly pigmented rosey red color that has a transparent finish which makes it very wearable for the day and night. I really like the Glossimer formulation for intense colors, as it is very easy to sheer out and gives a lovely wash of stain on the lips in a glossy finish. During the day I’d like to wear a sheer layer of this – it’s pretty and youthful and the color helps to brighten up the complexion. If you are after a dramatic and bold look, the lip gloss is intense enough for delivering its full color with a jelly like finish.
As the name suggests, this Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Red Carpet is the red color for making a statement. It is a cool deep ruby red with a hint of burgundy undertone in a matte finish. It is bold, sultry, a little vampy and the velvety matte finish adds an edgy and fashion-forward spin to this classic color. I absolutely adore the formulation of Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Lipsticks (detail reviews on other colors are covered in this post). Red carpet is no exception – it ‘s non drying and extremely long lasting. Available worldwide here.
Surrat is a new makeup brand that I am still uncovering. So far I have only tried their lip products, and also interested in exploring their luxury brushes range! Love their sleek frosted black packaging design, and their Automatique Lip Crayon range has some stunning colors. I picked the color P.O.C which is the most beautiful warm red with a hint of orange tone that I have ever seen. This is a summery red in my opinion, and looks great on either fair or tanned complexion. It has a non slippery crayon-like texture so it goes on very opaque and applies relatively creamy and smooth. I would say the texture is quite similar to the Nars Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil, if you are interested in exploring new brands, Surrat is a good option. Available here worldwide.
